Chen Weiqiang, a tenured professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering at New York University (NYU), has joined the school of biomedical engineering at Nanjing University as a distinguished professor. Nanjing University assistant president Jiang Tian noted Chen's extensive work in cutting-edge fields such as cellular biomechanics and organ chips, expressing that his decision to join the university during his peak academic years was moving.
The university held a welcome ceremony for Chen at its Suzhou campus on June 11. Previously, Chen was a professor and director of graduate education at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
Chen stated that he finished his work at New York University in May and returned to China to work. He cited personal career development and family reasons for his decision, adding that he did not take political changes in the United States into account. Chen graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University’s physics school in 2005 and obtained a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008.
