Anthropic enhances Claude's voice mode with advanced models and app integration

The new voice mode defaults to the fastest version of the last model used in text chat, enabling users to engage in more in-depth discussions, receive feedback on communication styles, and brainstorm ideas. A significant advancement is the integration with other applications, allowing Claude to perform tasks such as updating meeting slots, drafting emails via Gmail, or creating documents in Notion.

This integration capability differentiates Claude's voice mode from competitors like OpenAI's, which has focused on conversational style updates without similar tool integration. Anthropic had previously introduced multilingual support for its voice mode in beta, covering a range of languages including English, French, German, and Japanese, though manual language specification is required.

The enhanced voice mode is available to all users in beta across platforms. However, free users will experience limitations, being restricted to the Haiku model and the ability to connect only one external application. Anthropic has not announced changes to the underlying voice stack itself, suggesting that improvements in conversational aspects like interruption handling may not be part of this specific release.
