Senate confirms Brett Matsumoto as BLS commissioner

Brett Matsumoto has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the new commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Matsumoto, who is described as an inflation expert and a career economist within the BLS, has stated his intention to restore confidence in the agency's data. This confirmation follows the dismissal of the previous commissioner.

In a separate development, President Donald Trump has put forward Danielle Thumann Severs for a position on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Severs currently holds the role of senior counsel at the FCC. Her nomination is intended to fill one of two vacant seats on the five-member commission. This nomination occurs at a time when President Trump has been actively urging broadcasters to cease airing critical programming and has also pressed the FCC to consider revoking broadcast licenses.
