World leaders are seeking meetings with Donald Trump amidst escalating global conflicts, including the ongoing war with Iran and increased tensions in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet Trump at the White House.
Separately, Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting in the Philippines. Rubio indicated that efforts are continuing to find a peace agreement for the Russia-Ukraine war.
The U.S. is also engaged in escalating military actions with Iran. Trump formally notified lawmakers on July 10 that the U.S. is at war with Iran and vowed retaliation for the deaths of American service members. Oil prices surged to $100 per barrel on Thursday, the highest in nearly two months, after Iran-backed Houthi militants claimed responsibility for striking two tankers in the Red Sea.
