A woman who was sexually assaulted by Simon Levy eight years ago has stated that police failures allowed him to commit further crimes, including two murders. Laura, whose surname is being withheld, reported Levy in 2018 after he attacked her on the London Underground. She claims she was initially turned away by Met Police officers who said they were busy with more urgent matters.
Levy was eventually convicted in 2021 for sexually assaulting Laura and another woman, receiving a three-year jail sentence. However, he was released on license and went on to commit further offenses. On Friday, Levy was convicted of murdering Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and Sheryl Wilkins and raping another woman in London in 2025. He was also convicted earlier this year for sexually assaulting 11 other women between 2023 and 2025.
Laura expressed devastation for the victims and their families, feeling betrayed by the criminal justice system. She believes that authorities, including the Met Police, courts, judges, and the Crown Prosecution Service, made disastrous decisions that left Levy free to attack more women. She stated that charging Levy in 2017 for a previous alleged assault could have prevented her own assault and the subsequent murders.
The Met Police have apologized for Laura feeling unsupported and confirmed a crime report was created the following day, leading to Levy's identification, arrest, and conviction. The CPS and Met Police have acknowledged mistakes were made in the 2017 investigation. Levy is scheduled to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.
