Adongo, who played for the Colts from 2013 to 2015, overstayed his visa in 2016. According to ICE, he faced numerous arrests over the past decade for offenses including felony intimidation, battery, and disorderly conduct. In 2017, a judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine his competency to stand trial, and he was subsequently ruled incompetent and sent to a psychiatric hospital. He was convicted of criminal mischief with damage in 2020 and sentenced to 364 days in prison.
ICE stated that Adongo's recent charges fell under the Laken Riley Act, a law signed by US President Donald Trump on January 29, 2025, which mandates the detention of undocumented immigrants arrested for theft or violent crimes pending trial. The act is named after Laken Riley, a nursing student murdered the previous year.
