Ukraine protests to continue demanding Fedorov's return after Syrskyi firing

Mykhailo Drapatyi, a respected military leader, has been appointed to replace Syrskyi. However, protest organizers, including veteran Dmytro Koziatynskyi, have stated that the demonstrations will persist until Fedorov is back in his role. Zelensky mentioned on July 21 that he had offered Fedorov a significant government position focused on enhancing Ukraine's technological capabilities, but Fedorov has made it clear that he is only willing to return as defense minister.

Daily protests have been ongoing since July 16, initially sparked by Fedorov's dismissal and Syrskyi's position. Fedorov's tenure was marked by high-profile initiatives and reforms aimed at bolstering Ukraine's military strength. The demonstrations have attracted thousands in Kyiv and smaller rallies in other cities.

The conflict preceding Fedorov's dismissal stemmed from his increasingly difficult relationship with Syrskyi, reflecting differing philosophies on military leadership. Syrskyi's command style, rooted in Soviet doctrine, drew criticism for micromanagement and fostering a rigid command culture. Despite Syrskyi's replacement, lawmakers, veterans, and the public continue to voice concerns that Fedorov's dismissal could hinder reforms within the Defense Ministry, urging his return.
