Trump to host Netanyahu and Zelenskyy in Washington

Zelenskyy's visit aims to secure continued American support for Ukraine, more than four years after Russia's full-scale invasion. Ahead of the meeting, Ukraine intensified long-range attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, with Russian officials reporting damage to residential buildings from over 390 drones targeting the Moscow region overnight. Zelenskyy expressed hope for continued Washington support to achieve a "dignified peace."

Following Zelenskyy's meeting, Netanyahu will engage in his first face-to-face talks with Trump since the outbreak of the Iran war. The primary focus is expected to be Iran, with Washington pressing for negotiations to resume. Discussions will also encompass the implementation of a U.S.-backed agreement between Israel and Lebanon, and stalled efforts to reconstruct Gaza following the 2023 Hamas attacks and subsequent Israeli military offensive.

The meetings highlight Trump's foreign policy balancing act, seeking diplomatic initiatives while also managing escalating military actions. Relations between Trump and Zelenskyy have been strained at times, though Trump has adopted a more conciliatory tone recently. Direct U.S. arms deliveries to Kyiv have largely been replaced by the PURL program, where European nations purchase American weapons for transfer to Ukraine, though Washington continues to provide intelligence and satellite communications support.
