U.S. President Donald Trump issued new threats against Iran on social media, stating that the American military is prepared to "completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran" in response to alleged assassination plots targeting him. Trump posted on Truth Social early Saturday morning that "1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran" should the regime attempt to assassinate him.
These statements come amid reports that Israeli authorities provided intelligence briefings indicating the Iranian regime was targeting the U.S. president. The heightened tensions also follow a breakdown in a ceasefire agreement signed in June and recent U.S. strikes against Iran. These strikes were a response to Iran's attacks on shipping in the critical Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier in the week, Trump had told reporters that Iran was plotting to assassinate him, stating, "They want to take out the U.S. leader — me." He added, "I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long."
Despite the recent hostilities and threats, diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran are reportedly ongoing. Trump concluded his social media post with the phrase, "PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!"
