President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell and her husband, Robert, have made a significant stock donation to Trump Accounts. Trump stated the gift was worth $325 million and expressed his gratitude, saying it would help children achieve the American dream.
Shotwell, who did not publicly assign a value to the gift, announced that she and her husband would contribute a portion of their SpaceX stock to a Trump Account for each of over 2 million American children. At Wednesday's closing price of $148 per share, the shares were valued at approximately $296 million, a slight decrease from their valuation between $320 million and $325 million when the gift was initially announced on Monday.
Trump indicated that the donation would provide a better life for thousands of children. Shotwell's announcement specified that the gift would reach more than 2 million children aged 11 to 17 from lower-income areas, with a particular focus on those near the couple's home in central Texas. This contribution positions Shotwell as one of the largest individual donors to Trump Accounts, which are tax-advantaged savings vehicles intended to be seeded with $1,000 from the Treasury for every American child born between 2025 and 2028.
The donation follows Trump's earlier prediction that Elon Musk, despite a reported "little dispute" between them, would also donate SpaceX stock to the program.
