U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Russian leader Vladimir Putin by telephone for nearly 90 minutes, offering to help find a solution to the Ukraine war, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. Ushakov stated the offer was made in the context of Trump's upcoming participation in the NATO summit in Turkey.
Ushakov said Russia is seeking a political-diplomatic resolution to the conflict, while accusing Kyiv and its European allies of aiming to extend and escalate the fighting. He quoted Trump as saying that Washington's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would continue efforts to broker a settlement and were prepared for another visit to Moscow.
Putin reportedly depicted the battlefield situation as one where Russian forces were advancing, with commanders claiming the capture of Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Ukraine's General Staff rejected this claim.
