Jeremy Lewin's anticipated move to the White House National Security Council has been stalled following public criticism from conservative activist Laura Loomer. Loomer highlighted reporting that Lewin had helped author a pro-transgender-rights amicus brief while in private practice and had texted classmates expressing support for Joe Biden's 2020 victory.
"His efforts have transformed a corrupt foreign aid regime that funneled taxpayer dollars to activist liberal NGO’s into a well run system that advances America First objectives," said Deputy National Security Advisor Mike Needham in a rare statement. A State Department official added that Lewin "remains entirely focused on continuing the successful response to the deadly earthquakes in Venezuela." The White House referred inquiries to the State Department, and Lewin declined to comment.
Loomer told POLITICO that she had been preparing her opposition research for weeks, anticipating Lewin's move. She stated she held off publishing until it was public, not wanting to "jump the gun." According to Loomer, a State Department official contacted her, urging her to stop targeting Lewin and citing his work at the department, but this did not alter her stance.
Lewin joined the administration through Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, where he reportedly oversaw reductions at USAID, before taking a senior role at the State Department.
