Pirro's office, however, stated that the Department of the Interior was at fault. According to Pirro's motion to dismiss, her team would have refrained from bringing the initial indictment had the agency been more forthcoming with information. The DOI reportedly provided additional documents after the indictment, indicating that the damage was the result of flawed installation by contractor Atlantic Industrial Coatings (AIC) and a rush to complete the project before the America 250 celebration in 2026.
