A 16-year-old Georgia teenager, Colt Gray, has pleaded guilty to all 55 counts he faced in connection with a 2024 school shooting that resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries. Gray entered his plea in Barrow County Superior Court without a plea agreement, leaving the sentencing to Judge Nicholas Primm. The maximum penalty Gray faces is life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
At the time of the September 4, 2024, incident, Gray was a 14-year-old ninth-grader at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. He concealed the assault-style rifle used in the attack within a roll of poster board. The victims included students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, both 14, and teachers Cristina Irimie, 53, and Richard Aspinwall, 39. Gray was charged as an adult for the crime.
In a separate trial in March, Gray's father, Colin Gray, was convicted of 27 charges, including second-degree murder. Prosecutors argued that Colin Gray provided his son with the rifle as a Christmas gift, despite awareness of warning signs such as his son maintaining a shrine to school shooters and exhibiting violent behavior.
