Americans outside of Washington D.C. will soon have the opportunity to obtain limited-edition passports that feature a portrait of Donald Trump and commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The State Department announced that its 27 passport agencies across the country will begin offering these special travel documents next month. Previously, such commemorative versions were exclusively available at the Washington D.C. passport office for those applying in person.
Donald Trump's image is emblazoned on an inside page of the passport, marking him as the first living president to be featured in the travel document. The government intends to issue more than 250,000 of these passports nationwide, which have been dubbed "patriot passports." This initiative is the latest in a series of instances where Trump's name and likeness have been incorporated into visible tributes, including a commemorative coin and efforts to place his signature on U.S. paper currency.
Passport offices in Centennial, Colorado; Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; New Orleans; New York; and Stamford, Connecticut, are scheduled to host one-day special events starting August 8 to offer these passports. The program is expected to expand to include additional passport offices. To obtain this limited-edition version, individuals must apply in person on the specific day announced on the State Department's passport website, with separate days designated for traditional passport applications.
The commemorative passport design includes Trump's picture alongside a gold imprimatur of his signature on an interior page. The cover features "United States of America" in bold gold print at the top and "Passport" at the bottom, a departure from the current standard cover. Additionally, a small gold laminate American flag, encircling the number 250 with stars, is positioned at the bottom of the back cover. Current U.S. passports typically feature depictions of Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and scenes of the American landscape, along with quotations from historical figures.
