Prosecutors have submitted a video as evidence in federal court in Dallas, alleging it shows rapper Pooh Shiesty demanding his release from Gucci Mane's record label while an armed individual blocked a door during a January robbery. Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., and eight others have been indicted on kidnapping and extortion charges. The victims were allegedly robbed at gunpoint after traveling to Texas to discuss Pooh Shiesty's recording contract with Mane's 1017 Records.
Prosecutors filed the court record in response to a motion by Pooh Shiesty seeking home confinement, arguing the evidence against him did not warrant pretrial detention. However, prosecutors contend the evidence is "extraordinarily strong," citing cooperation from all five victims and witnesses, cellphone location data, surveillance video, and the newly submitted video.
According to prosecutors, just before the video was recorded, Pooh Shiesty presented a printed contractual release to the record label owner, who allegedly signed it after Pooh Shiesty pointed an AK-style pistol at his head. Prosecutors also stated that Rodney Wright, known as BIG30, recorded the video with his cellphone while another defendant held a firearm resembling an AK-47. The record label owner was allegedly robbed of approximately $450,000 worth of items, including jewelry and cash. Prosecutors noted that Pooh Shiesty was on home confinement with an electronic monitoring device for a prior firearms conviction at the time of the alleged confrontation.
