Adeel Khan, a prisoner at Wandsworth Prison, has been found guilty of assisting Daniel Khalife, who escaped the facility in September 2023 and was later convicted of spying for Iran. Khalife, 23, fled by clinging to the underside of a food lorry and remained at large for three days before being apprehended.
During his time on the run, Khalife, who had no money or phone, allegedly used the phones of members of the public to contact Khan. Khan, known as 'Adzz' inside prison, was accused of providing instructions and arranging for money to be transferred to Khalife. The court heard that Khan's girlfriend transferred money to Imran Chowdhury, who then withdrew £400 from a cashpoint. Khalife had approached at least five members of the public for assistance, including asking to use their phones to contact Khan.
Khalife was serving in the British Army when he was found to be passing sensitive information to Iranian agents. A diary found on Khalife when he was arrested contained Khan's name, prison number, and mobile number, as well as Khalife's own prison number and Snapchat handle. Khalife was sentenced to 14 years and three months in prison.
