President Lee Jae Myung has vowed to redress damages caused by state violence, including crackdowns and forced adoptions. During a ceremony presenting ceremonial flags to promoted military generals, Lee urged the generals to help restore public trust in the military, referencing its role in the 2024 imposition of martial law by former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung relayed Lee's remarks, stating that the president acknowledged the difficulty in restoring trust after past military regimes and the recent "insurrection." Lee emphasized that despite a few individuals tarnishing the military's honor, restoring public trust remains a crucial task.
Four generals were presented with ceremonial flags at the event, including Gen. Lee Sang-ryeol, chief of the Army Ground Operations Command, and Lt. Gen. Park Heung-jae, chief of the Air Force Academy.
