President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has seen a slight decline, falling to 53% in a recent survey conducted by Gallup Korea. This marks a one percentage point decrease from the previous week, after a rebound in the prior survey that followed a late June low.
The poll, which surveyed 1,002 individuals aged 18 and older between Tuesday and Thursday, also indicated that 35% of respondents disapproved of Lee's performance, a one percentage point drop from the week before.
Respondents most frequently cited the economy and people's livelihoods as reasons for their positive evaluation of Lee's performance, accounting for 19% of responses. Diplomacy was cited by 17%, and overall performance by 10%.
Conversely, concerns over the economy, people's livelihoods, and the foreign exchange rate were the primary reasons for negative assessments, cited by 21% of respondents. The pollster did not provide a specific reason for the overall decline in approval.
The survey also touched upon the government's "three mega projects" initiative, with 57% of respondents believing it will contribute to balanced regional development, while 26% anticipate it will widen regional disparities. This initiative involves significant investments by chip manufacturers Samsung Electronics and SK hynix in semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers.
In terms of party support, the ruling Democratic Party's approval rating increased by one percentage point to 42%, while the main opposition People Power Party saw its support drop by two percentage points to 24%.
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
