President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has edged down to 48.4% this week, a decrease of 0.5 percentage points from the previous week, according to a poll by Realmeter for the EKN newspaper. This follows two consecutive weeks of rising approval. The disapproval rating for President Lee increased by 0.3 percentage points to 48%.
Realmeter attributed the decline to factors including the central bank's recent policy rate hike and a significant stock market drop. Internal tensions within the ruling party regarding the prosecution's investigative powers also contributed to a decrease in support among voters in their 40s and liberal voters.
In a separate survey by Realmeter, support for the ruling Democratic Party fell 1.7 percentage points to 43.1%, while the main opposition People Power Party saw its support rise by 1.9 percentage points to 40%.
