Police investigating the alleged murder of former UK MP Ann Widdecombe have stated there is "nothing to suggest it was politically motivated." The 78-year-old former MP and MEP was found with serious injuries at her home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday.
Authorities confirmed that a 28-year-old white British man was arrested in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Saturday in connection with her death. Devon and Cornwall Police added that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman indicated that officers remain "open-minded" about a potential motive and that there is not believed to be any threat to the wider public.
The arrest was carried out shortly after 9 PM BST by officers from Counter Terrorism Police North East and South Yorkshire Police, acting on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police. Longman also stated there was no information to suggest the attack was terrorism-related.
