Former US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed that President Donald Trump's administration is discussing the use of nuclear weapons against Iran, citing depleted conventional weapons stocks and intelligence reports regarding Iran's nuclear program. Greene stated on social media that strategy meetings are considering nuclear escalation, which she described as 'pure evil' and urged Americans to resist.
Greene asserted that the US and Israel had previously been informed by intelligence that Iran was not close to developing a nuclear weapon, contrasting this with repeated claims that Iran was 'weeks away.' She suggested that the US government is now the one discussing lowering the nuclear threshold for use against Iran, despite Trump's claims of having won the war and controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
The US and Israel launched their war on Iran on February 28, resulting in thousands of civilian casualties and disruption to global energy supplies. Greene warned that further escalation could trigger a global 'nuclear holocaust' and an economic depression.
Her comments come amid reports of depleted US military weapons stocks. Reuters reported that American forces have used 'virtually all' of their long-range precision missiles, weakening overall readiness. NBC News also reported that the Pentagon is developing a strategy to increase the role of shorter-range tactical nuclear weapons in regional conflicts, with a senior defense official quoted as saying, 'Our view is that we need credible nuclear options.' The US remains the only nation to have used nuclear weapons in warfare, in 1945.
