Dawood Safi, an Afghan refugee, has been found guilty of attempting to murder his landlord and the manslaughter of a dog walker. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a second attempted murder charge related to a 14-year-old boy.
Safi, 28, killed 49-year-old Wayne Broadhurst on October 27, 2025, after attacking his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, 45, and the teenager in Uxbridge. Safi pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Broadhurst on the grounds of diminished responsibility, with the prosecution accepting he was in a psychotic state. He also admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Farrukh and actual bodily harm to the boy.
Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw KC stated that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided against a retrial for the second attempted murder charge, given Safi's existing convictions. The court heard that Safi had been experiencing a "depressive psychosis," hearing voices, and suffering from paranoia and delusional beliefs.
Safi arrived in the UK in 2020 and was granted asylum in 2022. He will be sentenced on October 5, following medical assessments. Broadhurst's family described him as a "kind, caring and loving man."
