A Georgia teenager, Carter Camacho, 18, has pleaded guilty to illegally carrying a firearm after running onto U.S. Capitol grounds with a loaded shotgun and body armor on February 17. Camacho, of Smyrna, Georgia, told law enforcement that he intended to confront members of Congress and "scare them into speaking the truth." He did not enter the building, and no one was injured. In addition to the firearm charge, Camacho also pleaded guilty to receipt or distribution of child pornography, discovered after a search of his phone post-arrest. Surveillance video showed Camacho exiting a car and running toward the Capitol's west side with the shotgun. He complied with officers' commands. Prosecutors stated Camacho purchased the shotgun for "home defense" less than a week prior to driving to the Capitol and had other tactical gear in his car. He also indicated he considered using the shotgun to breach a door to enter the Capitol. Camacho has remained in jail since his arrest and is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta on December 8.
