Separately, Wauconda Police Officer Christian Pascente, 31, died unexpectedly on Monday after serving more than three years with the department. His death was ruled a suicide and did not occur on-duty. Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton stated it was the seventh suicide his office has investigated in 2026. Pascente's family noted his dream job was being an officer, and he graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. In Ontario, Northumberland OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm, 33, died in the line of duty on April 27 in a motorcycle collision. Premier Doug Ford and OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique paid tribute to Malcolm. In Mérida, Yucatán, First Officer Sergio Humberto Peraza Centurión, 38, was honored after dying on May 17th in the line of duty during a search operation. The Secretariat of Public Security, led by Commissioner General Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda, participated in the tribute.
