Volatility Is The Icing. Time Is The Cake.

Most people put a calendar spread on because volatility is low and the back month looks cheap. Tom Preston takes that apart on a live chain. Volatility is genuinely part of it, but measured separately it turns out to be the smallest of the three pieces. He rolls the clock forward with the underlying pinned exactly where it is, then moves the strike to where the stock would need to go, and shows what each change is worth on its own. Time and direction do most of the work. Volatility is the bit on top. Education, not a recommendation. 📊 tastylive: https://www.tastylive.com/ 📰 Get Tom's pre-market analysis every morning: https://www.tastylive.com/newsletters 📘 FREE Options Strategy Guide: https://tinyurl.com/bp9ms763 📱 Follow tastylive on X: https://x.com/tastyliveshow Chapters 0:00 Why low volatility invites calendars 0:39 What the structure actually is 1:14 The question worth asking 2:03 Going to the platform 2:47 Setting up a put calendar 3:29 Why the debit is the max loss 4:02 Looking at vega instead 4:42 How much positive vega 5:26 A conceptual leap ahead 6:33 Rolling the clock forward 7:09 What the spread is worth 7:58 Time beats volatility here 8:45 Now let the stock cooperate 9:43 Both together beats either alone 10:15 Volatility as the icing 11:19 What to remember here #tastylive #calendarspread #optionstrading #vega #timedecay #impliedvolatility #cherrybomb #optionseducation #tastytrade #trading tastylive is a real financial network, producing hours of live programming every day.
