Silver could break away from gold as industrial demand from AI chips, solar cells and vehicle electrification reshapes it. Rhona O'Connell, StoneX Head of Market Analysis, EMEA & Asia, explains what would loosen silver's link to gold and how palladium demand is being rebuilt. Silver mine supply is largely price inelastic because most of it surfaces as a byproduct of copper, lead, zinc and gold output, so a higher price does little to lift production while industrial demand keeps building. On platinum and palladium, Nornickel has unveiled a palladium laboratory outside Moscow and is working through new uses, including partial substitution for silver in solar cells and for gold in electronics.
