India silver demand is rebuilding as newly released import licenses let jewelers and fabricators restock before the wedding season. Rhona O'Connell, StoneX Head of Market Analysis, EMEA & Asia, explains what the new licensing regime asks of importers and why India sits at the center of the physical silver market. India accounts for 63 percent of the global silverware market and 37 percent of the silver jewelry market on Metals Focus data for 2025, and those two end uses together take up 9 percent of global silver demand in all forms. The new licenses require a certificate of origin issued by a governmental authority in the country of origin before metal is accepted. On the gold side, borrowing activity points to mining companies selling into recent strength, while three Federal Reserve speakers in one week delivered a dovish, a neutral and a hawkish message with no forward guidance from the chair.
