Retired US Air Force Colonel Rob Maness raises concerns about the protection of American military assets in Britain, warning that potential drone attacks could expose vulnerabilities at bases hosting nuclear-capable bombers. “That's a big question because they're a NATO ally, obviously, but they're also a partner in the nuclear deterrent of the NATO alliance and the Western alliance, and we partner with them in that regard. “If they can't protect an American air base that has B -1 bombers and potentially B -52 bombers, which are nuclear-capable… then that needs to be looked at very, very closely on all the rest of our bases within that country. “I'm concerned that our bases are not protected from drone attacks like the one that Ukraine pulled off that destroyed 30 per cent of Russia's nuclear bomber force deep within Russian territory.”
