‘Sham club’: Manchester City CEO pressed on bombshell cheating scandal following guilty verdict

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has been pressed after the Premier League club received a bombshell guilty verdict. On Monday, City were found guilty of over 100 charges of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. The Manchester club was initially charged in 2023, with the investigation into the club’s serious breaches lasting four years. According to Al Jazeera, an independent body found that City “arranged ‘sham’ contracts: with several commercial partners. The investigation found that City used schemes “to artificially inflate the club’s revenue” and reduce costs by over “900 million pounds ($1.2bn) during the affected period”.
