La Trobe Financial CEO addresses risk and reward for new-build investors

​La Trobe Financial Chief Executive Chris Andrew says property investment loans are a valuable part of an investor’s portfolio, while also acknowledging the risks. ​“You can have as a lender a really good line of sight on the way the development progresses,” Mr Andrews told News24. ​“Of course there are risks, and for any experienced lenders and inexperienced investors you’ve got to be really careful. ​“What you’ve got to realise with property development is it is a cyclical industry; there are times where the developers will be making hay, getting lots of things out of the ground, really selling their stock well and it will be terrific. ​“There are times when the going’s a bit tougher and frankly right now, with lowering property prices, with slowing transaction volumes, with all of these sorts of things we’re at a bit of a cyclical low.” In partnership with La Trobe Financial.
