Former foreign minister Alexander Downer says Iran’s economy is in serious trouble and urges America and its allies to maintain pressure rather than tie the war to a midterm election timetable. “I think the Iranians, the IRGC, will hold out for as long as they possibly can,” Mr Downer told News24 host Caleb Bond. “This war requires patience on the part of the Americans and their allies. “It shouldn’t be linked to a timeline of midterm elections or whatever it might be. “The Americans are having huge success at the moment in undermining the Iranian economy. “They’re in all sorts of strife, so the Americans just need to keep the pressure up on the Iranians.”
