Global debate intensifies over regulating AI as the West risks falling behind China

Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has addressed the widespread concerns and debates surrounding global efforts to regulate artificial intelligence. “The discussion here and all around the world is whether or not we should put guardrails on it to sort of prevent maybe the worst possible outcomes from happening,” Mr Mulvaney told News24. “If we put those guardrails on and China doesn’t, and then AI does turn out to be the greatest thing since electricity, then the whole rest of the world is going to be behind the curve and stuck working with China. “It’s a really difficult situation from a political standpoint.”
