Enraged New Yorkers have slammed Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration following the botched rollout of the new pied-à-terre tax. On Tuesday, a City Council hearing was held over the new tax with a lawsuit ongoing, but Mamdani administration officials declined to attend. New York lawmakers were left fuming over the absence of Mamdani’s administration, with no one available to answer their questions. The majority of the roughly 3-hour oversight hearing was devoted to testimonies from nearly 30 homeowners and real estate industry members. According to the New York Post, the new tax applies to one in three family homes worth up to $US5 million. The pied-à-terre tax also applies to co-ops and condominiums valued at $US1 million or more that are uninhabited or non-primary homes.
