Existing political office holders will get an up to 9 per cent one-off increase in their salaries, said Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in parliament on Tuesday (Sep 8). He made the announcement during his ministerial statement on the government’s response to the review of salaries for political appointment holders and MPs. Mr Wong said the government accepts the recommendations by the salary review committee to update the MR4 benchmark from S$1.1 million to S$1.8 million, but office holders will not move to the new salary benchmarks immediately and adjustments will depend on individual circumstances, such as performance. The monthly allowances for Members of Parliament will also increase from S$13,750 to S$18,500. The changes will take effect from Oct 15.
