Singapore and India discuss bilateral cooperation on semiconductors, food security

Singapore and India could collaborate on nuclear and space technology, semiconductor manufacturing and strengthening existing supply chains, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said on Thursday (Aug 20). Speaking to reporters after the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, Mr Gan, who is also Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade), added that the ministers discussed establishing training centres for semiconductor manufacturing in India. The two countries also signed two new Memorandums of Understanding on food safety and maritime heritage. Ahead of a lunch with the Indian delegation and business representatives from both countries, Mr Gan told reporters that both sides had a "very long" discussion and had gone into "great depth". Mr Gan said good progress was made at the ministerial roundtable despite certain "hiccups", though he did not elaborate on what the issues were.
