Indonesia's Constitutional Court rejects bid to disqualify VP Gibran over education credentials

Indonesia's Constitutional Court has dismissed a legal challenge that sought to unseat Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka — the eldest son of former President Joko Widodo — over his educational credentials. In a unanimous decision, the court threw out the case, ruling that the petitioners lacked legal standing because they were not participants in the 2024 presidential election. The judges added that they found “no convincing evidence” that Mr Gibran possessed a foreign diploma equivalent to a senior high school qualification. Under Indonesia's election law, presidential and vice-presidential candidates must have completed senior high school or hold an equivalent qualification. Chandni Vatvani reports from Jakarta.
