An Indonesian wife is holding on to hope as her husband remains among 129 people missing after the Virgo Transport 8 capsized in the Java Sea on Sunday (Sep 13). “I’m sure he’s survived,” Dewi says as she waits for news of her husband, I Kadek Sayoga Putra. The passenger ship was carrying 243 people from Surabaya to Banjarmasin when it capsized in bad weather. 6 people have been confirmed dead and 108 rescued, while 129 remain unaccounted for. Persistent bad weather and rough seas are hampering search-and-rescue efforts, with waves of up to 2.5 metres and strong winds preventing the Coast Guard and Navy from launching underwater operations near the capsized vessel.
