Anthropic said on Thursday (Jul 30) that its artificial intelligence model Claude hacked into the systems of three companies during testing after a configuration error gave it internet access. The incident came days after OpenAI disclosed a rogue-agent episode involving AI firm Hugging Face. Speaking to CNA’s Asia Now, Toby Walsh, a laureate fellow and scientia professor of AI at the University of New South Wales, says that increasingly capable AI is exposing weaknesses in human safeguards, rather than simply “going rogue”.
