Malaysia’s Democratic Action Party (DAP) resolved on Sunday (Aug 16) to keep its ministers in the Cabinet, offering a reprieve to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. A DAP withdrawal could have posed a serious threat to Anwar’s administration and potentially triggered an early general election, analysts previously told CNA. Malaysia’s next general election, GE16, is not due until February 2028.
