Acting Manpower Minister Jasmin Lau on GovTech layoffs

The Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) is reshaping its workforce as it shifts from a one-off project delivery model to one focused on continuous product ownership, requiring more software engineers, cybersecurity experts and other technology specialists while reducing traditional project and vendor management roles, said Acting Minister for Manpower Jasmin Lau. Responding to MPs’ questions in parliament on Tuesday (Aug 4) about the recent retrenchment of 93 officers, she said GovTech will continue to retrain and redeploy affected officers where possible, but that some workforce transitions are unavoidable.
