Trump, Zelenskyy clash over Russia sanctions waiver and diesel deal

Tensions between Washington and Kyiv appear to be growing since US President Donald Trump announced a diesel deal with Russia earlier this month. That agreement allows Russian diesel supplies to reach US and global markets. On October 16, Trump signed an executive order waiving major energy tariffs and sanctions on Russia, just days before the measures were due to take effect. Ukraine subsequently launched one of its biggest drone attacks on Russia this year overnight on Saturday, striking a key oil terminal. In an interview with NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that US support for Russian President Vladimir Putin would be a "historic mistake" and a "big tragedy." Trump criticized the attacks in a Truth Social post on Sunday, saying they were "seriously hurting the world diesel markets" and claiming that Zelenskyy "doesn't want to end this war."
