A sword is made for battle, but in the Tang Dynasty (618β907) it also learned to dance. The Tang Sword Dance is tied to Lady Gongsun. Poet Du Fu recalled watching her dance in his youth. In the preface to one of his poems, he noted that calligrapher Zhang Xu was so inspired that his brush began to move like her.
