Like in China: Inside Paraguay's green energy transition

The Itaipu Dam stretches across the border river between Paraguay and Brazil, while the Three Gorges Dam stands majestically over the Yangtze River. Though separated by vast distances, the two dams share the same mission: turning the potential energy of water into clean electricity. In this episode of CGTN's Like in China series, host Pablo Coppari and Paraguayan journalist Leo Rubín visit the Itaipu Dam on the Paraguay-Brazil border. Inside the central control room, they explore how the waters of the Paraná River are converted by turbine units into electric current in the power grid, and they compare this massive project with China's Three Gorges Dam. Itaipu's construction and operational experience provided an important reference during the planning and design stages of the Three Gorges project. Meanwhile, locally introduced Chinese-made electric buses, along with supporting charging stations, are driving public transportation toward a green transition.
