Heavy rain hits county in southwest China, triggering flash flood

Extreme rainfall hit Mabian Yi Autonomous County in Leshan, Sichuan, in the early hours of August 22, triggering flash floods that inundated multiple low-lying streets across the county seat. Floodwaters swept through the town, carrying heavy silt and debris, damaging vehicles, shops and homes along the way. Emergency services, including fire crews, police and rescue teams, scrambled overnight to evacuate stranded residents.
