France rocked by mass protests: Why is public anger growing?

Douglas Yates, director of the International Politics Economics and Society program at ISIT-Paris, spoke to CGTN Europe about the escalating protests across France. Yates attributed the intensity of the unrest to a lack of leadership and mismanagement by President Emmanuel Macron's unpopular government. What began as protests over education reforms has expanded into a wider movement driven by cost-of-living concerns, with politicians on both the far left and far right seeking to capitalise on public frustration ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Yates argued that the government faces difficulties in meeting protesters' demands because of high public expectations, despite France's extensive public services. He warned that unrest could continue unless the government demonstrates stronger leadership and addresses the actions of fringe groups whose violence risks undermining the credibility of peaceful demonstrations. 📺 Subscribe to our YouTube channel and stay updated with our latest analysis and interviews:👇 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgrNz-aDmcr2uuto8_DL2jg 👈 Download our APP on Apple Store (iOS): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cctvnews-app/id922456579?l=zh&ls=1&mt=8 Download our APP on Google Play (Android): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imib.cctv For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video Most watched videos: Impossible Challenge: 30 seconds to count banknotes BLINDFOLDED https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmP_Ybj-jws Impossible Challenge: Gymnastics Boy Arat Hosseini from Iran! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sxX--U4c8w Impossible Challenge: How to calm babies in 5 seconds? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR3q9sXM7WA
