Flooded Bangkok street turns into floating market

A flooded plaza in front of a shopping mall in Bangkok was transformed into a temporary floating market on Monday as floodwaters continued to inundate parts of the Thai capital. Sellers waded through knee-deep water to sell fish, vegetables and other essentials from floating platforms and foam boxes. Buyers navigated the makeshift market on foot, in boats and on improvised floating objects as heavy rain continued. One shop owner said she was losing at least 3,000 baht ($90) a day because of the flooding, while another said residents were struggling to access food and other necessities. Bangkok was declared a disaster-affected area on Saturday after nearly 30cm of rain fell over 48 hours.
