China's record-setting offshore wind link in South China Sea enters operation stage

An offshore wind project off Yangjiang in south China's Guangdong Province was partially put into operation on Sunday, marking a major step in China's development of deep-sea wind power. A converter station, named the "Heart of the Sea Wind," has been installed near the turbines. It converts the electricity generated offshore, reducing transmission losses and addressing a key challenge for wind farms located farther out at sea. Once fully operational, the project's 163 turbines are expected to generate around 6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
