Bangalore helped turn India into a global hub for software services, tech talent and outsourcing, building an ecosystem that now supports multinational firms, domestic startups and capital. But the city’s success has also become one of its biggest weaknesses. India still lacks the depth of capital available in the US and China, while Bangalore’s physical infrastructure has struggled to keep pace with private-sector growth. At the same time, southern India’s rising economic power is colliding with demographic and political shifts that could threaten its representation in the country’s Central Government, which helps support the growth that cities like Bangalore have enjoyed.
