Is it the last dance for British nightlife? Two music venues close every month and two pubs every day. The government has offered support by cutting their business rates - we ask grassroots music supporter and Brit Award-winning rapper Tinie Tempah, set to release fourth album 'The Night's Not Dead', if that will be enough to save them. Interview by Katie Razzall. A DCMS spokesperson said: “Music is one of this country’s greatest strengths, but that depends on a thriving music ecosystem - from the grassroots venues and nightclubs where artists get their first introduction to the stage, to where the biggest superstars reach audiences on a global scale. “That is why our recently published Music Plan, Turn It Up, launched our £45 million Music Growth Package to back thousands of grassroots projects, over 40,000 artists and businesses, and millions of children to secure a thriving live and electronic music industry. “Britain has crafted some of the greatest music in the world. We are absolutely committed to working with the industry to make sure we have the venues, the talent and the opportunities to keep doing so for generations to come.” #music #ukmusic #livemusic #newsnight #politics #ukpolitics #bbc #bbcnews #tinietempah Newsnight is the BBC's flagship news and current affairs TV programme - with analysis, debate, exclusives, and robust interviews.
